Where Winter Feels Warm: Life at Fairview Lifestyle Village

Share

The colder months are approaching, days are getting shorter, and everything seems to be slowing down. It can be comforting to embrace the slower pace, however, winter shouldn’t prevent us from doing what we love. At Fairview Lifestyle Village, this time of year gives us a chance to experience a new kind of connection, comfort and community.

Staying Connected Through Food and Fun

Winter often brings with it a risk of isolation, especially when the cold weather makes getting out and about harder. But in our village, everything you need to stay socially and emotionally supported is right on your doorstep. It could be a soak in the spa, a game of Scrabble in the lounge, or a gentle walk with friends. It’s easy to stay socially active without having to brave the colder conditions.

The same cold weather can impact our appetite and make cooking feel like a chore, that’s why the Relish Cafe plays such a big role in village life – providing residents with warm, nutritious meals and a lovely space to dine with friends and family.

"You’re here just to enjoy yourself. That’s the fun of it! There is so much to do if you want to do it, and if you don’t, just stay home.”

From hearty specials like our Signature Butter Chicken, to seasonal events like the Mother’s Day Lunch and Pink Ribbon Brunch, food at Fairview is a reason to gather, share stories, and enjoy like-minded company.

"There are like minded people here. So if you want company it is there. You can seek it for yourself. You can meet people for coffee and it’s wonderful. So I haven’t looked back."

Beat The Winter Blues

Our community is warm, both in spirit and in design. Shared areas are inviting and full of light, helping our residents to avoid those winter blues that come from too many rainy days stuck inside.

Winter blues can be a serious thing, as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and low winter mood can really affect some people – especially during times when outdoor activities and sunshine are limited. Research shows that simple lifestyle changes during winter have great therapeutic benefits, something as simple as getting outdoors more, or establishing a better diet can go a long way. (Journal of Psychiatric Research, Volume 174, June 2024)

Here, the lifestyle supports these changes in simple, everyday ways. Shared meals, creative groups, games and gentle physical activities give purpose and routine to the week. And even more importantly, there are always familiar faces nearby.

“Every day I have something that works towards my health."

Some of those familiar faces are the nursing team, with Fairview having 24/7 onsite nursing support. Residents can enjoy peace of mind knowing that help is always available – whether it’s a check-in for a health concern, medication support, or just knowing someone is there if needed.

Keep Moving, Even When It’s Cold Outside

Winter aches, joint stiffness, and lower immunity can be common ailments, but they don’t have to slow you down. With gentle accessible activities available within the village it’s easy to keep moving and feeling good.

There are plenty of options, like Libby’s Aqua Class in our heated pool, Restorative Yoga with Joy, or simply enjoy a stroll around the grounds. Regular physical activity supports not just mobility, but also better sleep, improved mood, and stronger immunity – all important during winter.
